North Aurora Police Department
The North Aurora Police Department is at 200 S. Lincolnway, North Aurora, IL 60542. The non-emergency phone number is 630-897-8705. Always call 911 for emergencies. The police handle crime reports, traffic enforcement, noise complaints, parking problems, and general safety concerns through the non-emergency line.
The police department keeps its own records. If you need a copy of a police report, an accident report, or other law enforcement records, call the non-emergency line and ask for the records division. There may be a fee for copies depending on the type of record. The department also handles its own FOIA requests separately from Village Hall.
North Aurora's police force covers the entire village boundaries. For situations that are not emergencies but still need a police response, like a minor fender bender with no injuries, a suspicious vehicle, or a noise complaint at night, use the non-emergency line. Dispatch will send an officer when one is available.
North Aurora Fire Protection
Fire service in North Aurora is provided by the North Aurora Fire Protection District. The district operates two stations. Station 1 is at the corner of State and Monroe streets. Station 2 is at 2201 Tanner Road. The fire district is a separate taxing body from the village, so it has its own administration and budget.
For fire emergencies, always call 911. For non-emergency fire questions like inspections, smoke detector programs, or burn permits, you can contact the fire district directly. The fire district also provides ambulance and EMS service for the North Aurora area. If you need a copy of a fire report or incident record, contact the fire district office rather than Village Hall.
Because the fire district operates separately from the village government, its phone directory and staff contacts are not part of the village system. Check the fire district website or call Village Hall for help finding the right fire district number if you need it.
North Aurora Village Departments
The Community Development Department handles building permits, zoning questions, and land use planning. Call 630-897-8228 ext. 222 to reach this office. If you want to build an addition, put up a fence, or start a home renovation project, this is the department to call first. They can tell you what permits you need and walk you through the application process.
Code enforcement deals with property maintenance, tall grass, junk vehicles, and other code issues. The code enforcement line is ext. 231. If you see a property in your neighborhood that looks neglected or has a potential code problem, you can call this number or submit a complaint through the village website.
The Finance Department at ext. 225 handles village billing, taxes, and budget matters. Water bills, utility payments, and other fees go through this office. The Public Works Department at ext. 260 takes care of streets, storm water, snow removal, and general infrastructure. The Water Division at ext. 223 handles water service connections, water quality, and water system maintenance.
Natalie Stevens serves as Community Relations Coordinator and can be reached at 331-385-6161. David Arndt is the Information Technology Manager at ext. 267. Michael Toth serves as Business Services Manager at ext. 227. These staff members support various village functions and can help with specific questions in their areas.
FOIA and Public Records in North Aurora
The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) gives you the right to request public records from the Village of North Aurora. Phone directories, staff rosters, department budgets, contracts, meeting minutes, and other documents are all available. The village must respond within five business days after getting your written request.
You can submit a FOIA request in writing to Village Hall. There is no charge for looking at records in person. Paper copies may have a small per-page fee. Electronic copies are often provided at no cost. The village posts some records on its website, so it is worth checking there before you file a formal request.
The state FOIA resource page above explains how the law works across all Illinois municipalities, including North Aurora.
The Illinois Local Records Act (50 ILCS 205) requires North Aurora to keep public records based on the state retention schedule. Old directories, archived staff lists, and past budgets cannot be thrown out without following proper procedures. If you need an older record, the village should still have it on file or know where it was sent.
Note that police records and fire district records go through those agencies, not through Village Hall. If you need a police report, file your FOIA with the police department. Fire district records go through the fire protection district's own FOIA process.
